Gain the competitive edge you need to secure pupillage and
start your career as a barrister with BPP’s new BTC.
Taught by qualified lawyers with extensive practice
experience, BPP’s highly practical training simulates working life in chambers.
What is the Barrister Training Course (BTC)?
From day one, you’ll learn to think and act like a
barrister. You will apply your knowledge to realistic legal scenarios of the
type you are likely to encounter within pupillage. By developing your advocacy
skills throughout, you’ll emerge confident and polished before you step into a
courtroom.
On successful completion, you’ll be eligible to be called
to the Bar of England and Wales (subject to meeting the qualifying session
requirements of your Inn of Court).
You can study the BTC in five UK cities, including the
option to study part-time in London.
BPP University Law School is authorised by the Bar
Standards Board to deliver the vocational component of Bar training. This
course replaces BPP’s Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) from September
2020.
Why study the Barrister Training Course (BTC)
with BPP?

maximising your time to practise and refine your skills
Learn face-to-face with expert tutors, who provide regular
feedback to replicate the relationship between a pupil barrister and pupil

your knowledge and skills in context
Choose between common law or commercial practice contexts
for additional employability, based on the two most common types of pupillage
in England and Wales.
Supported by our innovative learning platform, BPP Adapt,
you can track your progress, understand your strengths, and target areas for
improvement, ensuring you’re fully prepared to pass your assessments

applications and interview support through our Careers Service
Can I get postgraduate loan funding for the
BTC?

automatically considered for our BTC Excellence and Advocacy scholarships. The
awards are worth £1,000 and recognise outstanding potential and academic
achievement.
How is the BTC structured?
BPP’s new BTC is structured across two parts, designed to
provide increased flexibility.
