The Guardian University Guide has been released for 2018, ranking 121 UK universities in an overall league table, as well as within 54 subject areas. Not only can you look at the rankings for the more general subject areas, but you can also search for specific courses and discover how universities offering them compare.

The Guardian rankings are based on eight factors, culminating in a total Guardian score out of 100:

Course Satisfaction – based on the National Student Survey (NSS), this is the percentage of final year students satisfied with the overall quality of their course.

Teaching Quality – again based on information from the National Student Survey, this is the percentage of final year students satisfied with the teaching they received.

Feedback Score – the percentage of final year students satisfied with their feedback and assessment from lecturers, based on figures from the NSS.

Staff-Student Ratio – the number of students per member of teaching staff.

Spend – the amount of money spent on each student, as a rating out of 10.

Average Entry Tariff – the typical grades (converted into UCAS point equivalents) of students currently studying in that department.

Value-Added Score – a show of how effective teaching is, by comparing student's individual degree results with their entry qualifications, given as a rating out of 10.

Career Score – the percentage of students in graduate level jobs or further study within 6 months of graduation.

The Guardian University Guide league tables don't focus on the research scores of the universities, meaning that rankings may be slightly different to others. The tables are advised by an 'expert review group of professionals from UK universities', and compiled by an independent consultancy company. The data presented in the tables is based on information collected by the Higher Education Statistics Agency, and the National Student Survey.
