What is a pre-master's?
Pre-master's courses range from 10 weeks to 12 months, and are for international students who have not quite met the required education or skills level to do a UK master's degree. They are designed to prepare students for studying at a postgraduate level in the UK, including improving English language and study skills, alongside acquainting international students with UK university teaching methods and cultures.
Do I need to study a pre-master's?
It is always best to double check on whether or not you will be required to complete a pre-master's course before you can do a UK master's degree.
As a general guideline, however, there are a few points that would make studying a pre-master's necessary:
- Your undergraduate degree results do not meet the required standard for postgraduate study.
- Your English language skills do not meet the required level.
- Your study, research, or presentation skills do not meet the required level.
- You are originally from a country (and studied your undergraduate degree there), whereby completing a pre-master’s course is obligatory if you wish to study for a master's in the UK. Contact Team AppUK today if you are unsure if this applies to you.
